A musician, producer, composer and passionate ornithologist.
The founder and leader of Afro Celt Sound System and The Imagined Village project. He ranks among the most prominent personalities of the British music scene, where he began as a punk, DJ, founder of the Working Week band and an influential promoter of acid jazz. In the 1990s, he came up with a courageous idea: to unify the Gaelic and African music traditions under the auspices of electro-beats. Even though similar multicultural fusions had long existed, perhaps no one before Afro Celt Sound System had done so much for understanding the different cultural worlds and had not abolished so many genre definitions. Simon has produced many albums including the pivotal Firin’ in Fouta by the Senegalese singer Baaba Maal.
