Steffen Wilde was born and raised in Halle (Saale). In 1988 he started working at Halle’s biggest students’ club “Turm”. From 1992 to 2004 (until the club got closed) he was the club’s booker for jazz and jazz-related music.
From 1994 to 2004 he organized the International Moritzburg Jazz Festival in Halle.
From 2005 until 2010 he organized the “Take 5” concert series at “Objekt 5”, Halle’s best and still running music club. In 1997 he started working as a booking agent with his agency Subtone Concerts. He booked European tours for musicians mainly from the United States, but also from Norway, Austria, Great Britain, Switzerland, and Japan. In 2009, he moved to Dresden to become C.E.O. and artistic director for the renowned Jazzclub Tonne. The Tonne was granted by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media with the “German Live Club Award” for its “outstanding programming” in 2013/2014/2015 and 2017. Since 2012 Steffen has been one of the 26 members of the Bundeskonferenz Jazz/Federal Jazz Conference (the lobby association for Jazz in Germany). Since 2015, he has been the artistic director of the “Bundesweites Jazznachwuchsfestival” (Jazz Newcomers’ Festival) in Leipzig.
