Jazz guitarist, music teacher, dramaturge and artist director of the Jazzfest Brno music festival. He studied at the JAMU Music Faculty, including a study stay at the American University of North Texas in Denton. Aside from his organisational work, he’s also an active musician. He has played with Four Elements, Unity Quartet and Two-Generation Trio. In 2013 he set up his own ensemble – the Vilém Spilka Quartet. In addition to this, he is also part of in the Jazz Interpretation Department at Brno’s JAMU Music Faculty where he is the main teacher of guitar studies and departmental head (as of 2011). He occasionally makes contributions to music journalism; since 1998 he has been primarily writing for Harmonie magazine.
